Radar reveals it all!

A movie generated from sequences of radar images shows the movements of sea surface currents within the tidal cycle. SeaDarQ allows the observation of small eddies and convergence zones along the coast with a great detail.

The video found below is prepared by a SeaDarQ programmer Jos van Heesen. The digital images were collected with an X-band radar at the lighthouse of Ameland (white dot on the right side of the image).

The flow pattern can be observed thorough full tidal cycle, first coming towards the islands and then reversing to head back to the open sea. The area between two islands called Amelander Zeegat is 3,7 km and the resolution of the SeaDarQ images is 10 m.
