History of SeaDarQ

SeaDarQ B.V. has developed a radar processing technology which extracts information from radar waves to detect and monitor sea surface features. The advanced image processing techniques are employed for oil spill detection, for the extraction of hydrographical and oceanographic parameters and for the detection of small objects.

Over the past 25 years the Dutch Government Institute TNO has researched and completed extensive experiments focused on radar and antenna design. These experiments have successfully demonstrated how radar waves reflected from the sea surface contain valuable information which can be extracted using complex algorithms which process radar clutter. This information is very valuable in the fields of oceanography, hydrography, maritime safety and environmental protection.

In 2003, the Dutch Institute TNO formed a joint venture with Tech 5 B.V. which is a company which designs and builds electronic measuring systems. Through this venture the company SeaDarQ B.V. was formed. The advanced technology developed by TNO and the expertise of Tech 5 B.V. is exported and incorporated into industry through SeaDarQ B.V.

The cooperation between SeaDarQ B.V. and its partners has enabled development of the technology which extracts information from radar signals via advanced image processing techniques. In addition to active research and development in this field, SeaDarQ B.V. operates as a means for commercialisation and sales of SeaDarQ products. These products incorporate the advanced technology and integrate standard hardware into a product which is suitable for the real-time storage and processing of raw radar information either as a ship borne or land based system. The product line is three fold, and consists of software for oil spill detection, for hydrographical and oceanographical information extraction and for small object detection. The technical quality of these products is strongly supported by TNO, and this governmental and military backing represents a significant advantage which SeaDarQ B.V. holds over competitive counterparts.
